Counting calories is a great way to stay fit. You need to keep track of your calories because your calorie balance determines how your weight changes from day to day. When you burn off calories while exercising, and you lose more than you consume, the weight will fly off.

When doing repetitions that require counting, start at your goal number and count down. This keeps you motivated as you are more easily able to visualize the end.

TIP! When doing repetitious types of exercises that you need to count, begin with the number you are aiming for and count backwards from it. This helps you know how many more you have left while keeping you motivated to finish.

If so, look at other choices. Bicycling is another excellent fitness option. Try bicycling for a fun and economical commute to work that will be of great benefit to your body. Depending on your distance and route to work, your bike ride will be approximately half an hour per every five miles of driving. Consider also that you have to drive home which gives you two daily workouts, so long as your day permits it.

Before starting a bench workout, examine the padding of the bench by pressing down your fingers on the cushion. If you can easily feel the wood underneath the padding, you should select a different machine. If you can feel the support structure you may sustain bruising or other injury.

TIP! When selecting a workout bench, push down on the padding with your fingers to check the thickness. You should not be able to reach the hard structure beneath the padding on an adequately-padded bench.

Try thinking out of the ordinary when you want to start a new fitness program. There are a number of options your have when it comes to exercising. Find an activity that you truly enjoy. This will keep you motivated, especially when you are first starting out.

To improve the efficiency of your workout, practice controlled breathing. For example, exhale hard as you lift up in situps and crunches. Your muscles have to work harder if you exhale deeply.

TIP! You can boost the effectiveness of working out by controlling your breathing. When doing sit-ups or crunches, exhale when you are sitting up all the way, before you descend.

Track everything you do throughout each day. Write down everything you eat or drink and every exercise that you do. You should even jot down the weather you had that day. You will see what you need to improve on. If you skip exercise on some days, jot down a note explaining why.

Running can be both a blessing and a curse. To reduce any damage, every six weeks you should cut your mileage in half for one week. Lowering your mileage like this allows your body to rest, giving it a chance to repair any damage and prevent long-term problems that can develop when the body isn’t given a chance to recover.

TIP! Use caution if running is your preferred fitness technique because its health benefits can be offset by the bodily harm it can cause over time. One great rule you can follow is to allow yourself a break every six weeks where you run half of what you usually do for one week.
